Joining Peritus: A Summer Internship

Hi there!

My name is Sam, and I have just finished Grade 11. I am excited to be starting a one-month summer co-op program with Peritus Environmental Consultants Inc., focused on environmental science.

My Career Goals

With so many opportunities available post-secondary, I thought I would have a better understanding of where I want to go and what I want to do, but I don’t. I’ve thought about it quite often, considering everything from law to software engineering, without ever settling on one thing. There’s a lot that interests me, which might be why I’m finding it hard to choose only one path. As of right now, I am focused on pursuing a degree in Environmental Science at the University of Waterloo. Gaining admission to their program, and ideally participating in their co-op program, are my primary goals right now.

Shaping My Goal

Over the course of my high school education, I’ve experienced many things that shaped my goal in both big and small ways, but one thing stands out. Before my introduction to Grade 9 Geography, I had very little knowledge of the environment and its importance. However, after taking the course, I learned about its intricacy, beauty, and significance, which changed my goal forever.

Completing an Internship Program

I’ve always wanted to learn both inside and outside of school, so when I got the opportunity to do an environmental based internship, I couldn’t resist. Being able complete my internship with Peritus is a dream come true. I’m learning from experts in the environmental field while still having a fun and engaging experience.

What I Hope to Learn

I hope to get an in-depth, engaging experience during my time at Peritus so I get a better understanding of the environmental side of Ontario. By the end of my position at Peritus, I hope to know whether I will pursue a career in environmental industry or explore other opportunities.
